An open password encrypts the content: you must enter the correct password you already know. Unlock does not recover a forgotten open password.

No. If the file needs an open password, you must supply the correct one. We do not implement password recovery, dictionary attacks, or any path that opens encrypted content without the password you provide. Unlock is a form on this page: choose the file, enter a password only when needed, and run—there is no page-card board on Unlock.
Unlock rewrites the PDF to remove encryption or permission locks. While rewriting, loosely stored content streams are often recompressed. That can shrink the file even when you did not open Compress PDF. It is a side effect of writing a clean unlocked copy, not a promise that unlock always shrinks every file. For stronger size reduction use Compress PDF (including the optional page-raster control).
The current limits are 100 MB and 200 pages. Larger files are rejected with a clear error.
